Readers, it’s with great pleasure to reveal that my short story, Bloodhound, is included in the March 2022 issue of JOURN-E! You’ll find it starting out the Detection & Mystery section.
Bloodhound is the story of Agent John Tanner’s hunt for a fabled creature – the Pied Piper. The agency he works for operates in the shadows, fighting to keep dangerous monsters hidden from public exposure. Together, him and his German consultant, Sophie, use whatever means at their disposal to close the case.
Similar to Last Flight Out, my previous published story, Bloodhound started life as a potential submission for moral and ethical anthologies. We’ve been listening to loads of classic rock in our household, and one that is played more than most is Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. In it, you’ll find the words, “Your head is humming and it won’t go, in case you don’t know / The piper’s calling you to join him.” From that line, a seed of an idea for this story grew. Obviously, it’s almost a cliché now to be artistically inspired by the lyrics of Led Zeppelin but I couldn’t help it!

JOURN-E: The Journal of Imaginative Literature is a brand-new literary journal from Mind’s Eye Publications. Their editor, Frank Coffman, is an accomplished writer and an excellent person to collaborate with. These issues are shaping up to be real behemoths, featuring a wide array of Mystery, Horror, Fantasy, and Sci-Fi. Within each sections are reviews, fiction (classic and new), art, and poetry. So, if you are wanting an influx of high-quality speculative work then look no further. Check them out!

I know there’s many ways to spend your time and money in the world of fiction but I assure you this is worthwhile. Any feedback or support you’re able to show will be greatly appreciated.
In other news, I am still left with one short story being queried. There was also an entertaining micro-fiction submission that opened up, Video Nasties by Pyre Magazine, so I took a shot in the dark and submitted something. Otherwise, every moment I set aside for creative writing is solely focused on my debut novel. The first draft is sitting at 27k words currently. Chugging along…
Keep turning the page,
Chris
